My enthusiasm for marine life stems from a part-time job I once had at a LFS (local fish store) in Ypsilanti, Michigan as a teen. Over a decade of experience in aquaculture with these animals has instilled in me a great amount of passion, appreciation, and determination to dedicate part of my life energy in ensuring that our planet’s vital coral reefs and its inhabitants are preserved and protected. Merging a passion for photography and marine life is how I created Reefracted, as a means to heighten other consciousnesses about how crucial it is in making decisive efforts in safeguarding aquatic ecosystems in anyways possible. Displaying the beauty of these specimens, documenting, and cataloging various species of fish, coral, and invertebrates through photography and art has allowed me to feel much more deeply for them, which is an emotion I hope to evoke in others. These photos are windows into a different world, that are meant to act as a catalyst to care for these important and precious animals which lie beneath our waters surface.
